Ruby on Rails Workshop
Last week I co-organized with Emanuel Mota a Workshop on Ruby on Rails for PrimeIT. Each day had a 2 hour session.

The first day was dedicated to the Ruby programming language, it’s history, advantages and why it was chosen as the backbone for the Ruby on Rails framework. The end of the session was teased by a little introduction to Rails and the 15 minute video explaining how to build a blog.
The second day was all about Ruby on Rails, the fundamentals, the MVC pattern, REST and all that we could pack in the short time we had. There was time to build a small web app to manage workshops and registrations.
There was room for lot’s of dialog and discussion about some of Rails technical choices, advantages, disadvantages, troubles and personal advices. The presentations are available at SlideShare and the source-code can be found at Github, so you can download, fork it, change, push or do with it as you please.
I’m sure there was much more to talk about but we had to condense all we could into the little time frame we had. I had a terrific good time and I hopefully there will be new opportunities in the future for more quick workshops.

That’s really cool. I’ve thought about running my own training course for Rails before. Rails is not very popular where I’m based, and someone needs to pick up the ball around here to promote RoR. I think training is a really good way to do just that. Did you find it was a good way to network as well?
Congratz Pedro and Mota :D I hope this is the first of many Rails workshops. We need this!
Thanks for sharing this nice work.

Francisco
It was great to counter attack some myths regarding Ruby on Rails and motivate people to try out the framework.
I hope this results in more people at Ruby gatherings around here. :)
